Malloy Doesn't Want Stamford Garage To Move

STAMFORD, Conn. — If Gov. Dannel Malloy had his way, the new parking garage at the Stamford Transportation Center would be either at the station or right next to it.

“Remember where I come from before you jump on that bandwagon,” Malloy said during the Stamford Chamber of Commerce’s 25th annual meeting Thursday afternoon, addressing the concerns of rail riders that the new garage may move as far as a quarter mile away from the station.

The governor said he has not seen any proposals and would consider the potential economic benefits along with what is best for rail riders. A committee will be put together to advise him and Transportation Commissioner James Redeker on the new parking garage, he said.

The state plans to build a new garage with at least 1,000 spaces to replace the one built in 1987, expand availability of parking, improve traffic and pedestrian flow around the station and minimize public costs for construction, maintenance and other operations, the environmental impact evaluation of the project said.
