Incumbents Re-Elected To Stamford School Board

STAMFORD, Conn. — The incumbents in Stamford’s Board of Education race have been re-elected, according to official election results.

Democratic Board President Polly Rauh led all candidates with 23,087 votes, followed by Democrat Delores Burgess with 22,465. Republicans Jerry Pia, 18,814 votes, and Lorraine Olson, 17,118 votes, were also elected to the board as at least two Republicans had to take seats. Republican Jon Hoch finished fifth with 16,173 votes.

Original Story: STAMFORD, Conn. — Republicans Jerry Pia and Lorraine Olson won re-election to their Board of Education seats and Democrat Polly Rauh was leading her race with 21 of 22 districts reporting early Wednesday morning.

Democratic challenger Delores Burgess had not conceded as of 1 a.m. Wednesday. Republican challenger Jonathon Hoch appeared to have lost. Republican Jerry Pia was running for a second term since rejoining the board in 2010. He previously served from 1980 through 1998. The lifelong Stamford resident is executive director of the Glenbrook Community Center.

Republican Lorraine Olson was also seeking a second term on the school board. Olson, 58, is a lifelong Stamford resident and works as a school nurse. Rauh, current board president, was also seeking a second term. She is a retired teacher and principal in Stamford.

Burgess is a retired mother of one and helps out as a tutor at Stamford High School. She is a board member of the NAACP.

Hoch was denied a first term on the board. The father of two and youth coach works as the chief community officer at Domus.
