The three-term Democratic senator from Connecticut had last week been considered a front-runner for the position after meeting with President Donald Trump. CNN reported Wednesday that Trump was looking to "reset" his search for a new FBI director, and that he wants to see a wider range of candidates.
Trump is also expected to hire an associate of Lieberman's to join his personal legal team handling matters related to the inquiries into his campaign's alleged ties with Russia, according to CNN. Marc Kasowitz is the head of the Manhattan law firm where Lieberman works part time, though officials told CNN that the decision to hire Kasowitz had nothing to do with the FBI director search.
