The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating the one-car crash, which occurred at 12:31 p.m. on Washington Boulevard/Route 137 near Second Street.
The 2006 BMW 525i was traveling north on Washington Boulevard when the driver lost control and the BMW struck a tree off the east side of the road, police said.
The driver and passenger were extricated from the wreckage by Stamford Fire-Rescue using hydraulic tools, police said.
Both were transported to Stamford Hospital by Stamford Emergency Medical Service ambulances.
The 19-year-old Stamford resident, who was a passenger in the car, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, police said.
The driver, a 20-year-old Stamford resident, sustained severe injuries and was admitted to Stamford Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment, police said.
Police did not release the identities of the two people while officers investigate and notify the next of kin.
