Stamford Police Taking Precautions At Theaters

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford Police will be taking precautions to prevent an incident like the one that took place at an Aurora, Colo. midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” from happening in the city, Assistant Chief James Matheny said Friday.

A gunman opened fire in a theater during the movie, killing at least 12 people and injuring many more. A 24-year-old man was the prime suspect and arrested earlier in the day on Friday.

“We never assume anything is done until we know for sure,” Matheny said, not saying whether he had information about whether the incident in Colorado was just one person working alone or if it may be wider spread. He added that the department always plans for the worst to take place.

Matheny would not go into detail about what measures the department will be taking to insure safety at the movie theaters, but did say the patrol division will be taking precautions.
