The accident occurred just before 7 p.m. on Tresser Boulevard near Greenwich Avenue.
The van that struck the pedestrians fled the scene, but left several pieces of the vehicle behind, police said.
Witnesses described the vehicle as a gray-colored work van or contractor’s van. Investigators believe the evidence and description will lead to identify the vehicle and eventually the operator, police said.
Police are asking the driver to contact them to explain the circumstances of the collision from his or her perspective.
The pedestrians were transported to Stamford Hospital. One suffered serious injuries, and the other sustained minor injuries, police said.
Stamford Police is requesting any witnesses or persons with information about the accident to call 203-977 4712.
Officers Thomas Drain and Jeffrey Booth are investigating.
