The man, who was a resident of Wormer Congregate Housing at 28 Vine Road, was crossing High Ridge Road from west to east with the aid of a walker in the crosswalk at Vine Road shortly before 8:30 p.m. when he was struck by a 2005 BMW X5 sport utility vehicle operated by a 43-year-old Stamford resident, police said.

The motorist was southbound at the time, police said.

Initial indications are that speed was not a factor in the accident and that the BMW was proceeding through a green traffic light, police said Monday. The operator remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is continuing the investigation and any witnesses or persons with information are asked to contact investigating Officer Tom Drain at 203-977-4712.
