Representatives of MADD CT (Mother Against Drunk Driving) will partner with Stamford police to participate in the checkpoint. They will be handing out safety tips for the holidays as well as Uber coupons to promote safe driving during the holiday season. The Stamford Police Department supports MADD in its mission.
The mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes and prevent underage drinking.
This DUI checkpoint is one of 13 scheduled checkpoints made possible through a state grant awarded to the Stamford Police Department. The objective of the DUI grant is to reduce the number of crashes, injuries and fatalities from impaired driving through increased high-visibility DUI enforcement activities. Increased communication with the public along with increased levels of DUI enforcement activities will help drivers realize the risks and consequences of operating a vehicle while under the influence and deter that behavior.
Throughout the year, there will also be numerous “roving” details in which officers will be vigilant in their pursuit of impaired or intoxicated drivers.
The Stamford Police Department reminds everyone to have a designated driver, don’t let an impaired driver drive, don’t get in a car with an impaired driver and use Uber or other means of travel.
