Officers found the suspect, Craig Daly, 34, naked in his bathroom attempting to flush heroin in rice down the toilet, Gasparino said. Three bundles of heroin were recovered from the toilet, he said.

Drug dealers keep heroin with rice to keep it dry, he said.

While searching Daly’s bedroom, officers found a plastic bag with 32.6 grams of marijuana and about 8.8 grams of heroin, Gasparino said. The street value of the heroin seized is about $900 and about $400 for the marijuana, he said.

The Narcotics & Organized Crime Unit has been investigating Daly, who is a “career criminal,” for about a month after receiving information that he was selling marijuana, heroin and crack-cocaine out of his basement apartment on Clinton Avenue, Gasparino said.

The department's Special Response Team assisted with executing the search warrant, he said.

Daly was charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, sale of certain illegal drugs and sale of a controlled substance, police said.
