Stamford Police Arrest Man, Look For Second, In Gun Battle

STAMFORD, Conn. -- One man was under arrest and police were searching for a second man in connection with a shootout early Sunday outside a fraternal organization club.

Freddie Hicks, 32, of 20 Cedar St., Stamford was arrested Tuesday night in connection with a gunfight early Sunday in Stamford. A .40 caliber pistol was found in his home police said.

Freddie Hicks, 32, of 20 Cedar St., was arrested while walking near his home around 7 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Stamford police Capt. Richard Conklin said Hicks is alleged to be one of two shooters who blasted 10 to 15 rounds at one another around 2 a.m. after they had a dispute inside the club at 33 Mission St.

Police Sgt. Chris Broems of the Bureau of Criminal Investigations headed up the investigation, Conklin said. BCI, along with the other investigators, and the Digital Forensic Unit quickly worked to identify Hicks.

Tuesday evening, officers from BCI, the Narcotics and Organized Crime unit, patrol officers and the Special Response Team worked together to arrest Hicks, he said.

Hicks has 12 prior convictions in Stamford and was out on parole when the shooting occurred, Conklin said. There is a $300,000 court set bond, but Hicks also may have his parole revoked.

Conklin said the new Stamford Crime Stoppers program, which offers rewards for tips leading to the arrest of people involved in crimes, played a major role in leading to Hicks' arrest.
