John Spencer, age 27, was arrested in Stamford around 5:30 a.m., Thursday, March 17, after a raid on his apartment by the Narcotics and Organized Crime following a weeks-long investigation, said Capt. Richard Conklin, of the Stamford Police.
During a search of his apartment, officers found two handguns including a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun and a .22-caliber revolver., Conklin said.
Officers also found an illegal high-capacity magazine and 2.5 grams of crack cocaine, he added.
Spencer, of Stamford, was charged with:
- Two counts of criminal possession of a firearm
- Altering the serial number on a firearm
- Criminal possession of ammunition
- Possession of a high-capacity magazine
- Possession of narcotics
- Violation of a protective order.
Spencer has numerous felony convictions, including gun charges, and is banned from owning any weapons, Conklin said.
Police are also now investigating Spencer for a possible connection to two shootings that took place near his apartment on Monday, March 14, he added.
At least one of the shootings involved a 9mm gun. Officers are checking ballistics to seek if the gun recovered is a match to one of the shootings that took place, Conklin said.
