The incident began at about 10 p.m., when a guest at the ex-wife's house in Stamford said that someone was beating on her car, which was parked outside, police said.
The woman went outside and found a 28-year-old woman -- her ex-husband's new girlfriend -- hitting her vehicle's tires with a hammer, police said.
The ex-wife confronted the girlfriend, identified by police as Heidi Lueders of New Canaan, and the two began to tussle before falling to the ground among some bushes, police said.
The complainant yelled for someone to call the police and as she was doing so Lueders yelled, "Babe, babe," said Sgt. Kelly Connelly of the Stamford Police Department. A man came over and grabbed the ex-wife by the neck and began to choke her, police said.
The man, identified by police as Eric Stahl, and Lueders then fled in a 2003 Lexus, police said.
When the man went to pick up his child at his ex-wife's home the next day, he was arrested, police said.
Stahl, 38, of 18 Carroll St., Stamford, was charged with second-degree strangulation, conspiracy to commit criminal mischief and breach of peace.
Lueders, of 26 Marshall Ridge Road, New Canaan, was charged with second-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Her bond was set at $500 and a .380-caliber handgun and her pistol permit were seized, police said.
