Stamford Man Charged With Fraudulently Obtaining Computer Networking Parts

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Stamford man has been charged with operating a scheme to fraudulently obtain hundreds of computer networking parts, Acting U.S. Attorney for Connecticut Deirdre Daly announced.

Craig A. Stanland, 40, of Stamford purchased or controlled about 14 service contracts for Cisco networking parts, Daly said in a statement. He then made hundreds of false service requests to Cisco to replace purportedly defective computer networking parts and had them sent to various addresses, including his own home and two Post Office boxes in Greenwich, Daly said. 

Stanland fraudulently obtained more than 400 parts from Cisco through this scheme, she said. The retail cost of the parts ranged from about $500 to $8,600, according to Daly.

Stanland was arrested Oct. 1, charged with mail fraud and released on $100,000 bond. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison. 

This case was investigated by the FBI with assistance from the Greenwich Police Department.
