Officers responded to 1435 Bedford St., where they met and interviewed the victim, said a statement from Lt. Diedrich Hohn. The girl told officers that when she arrived home from school, she entered an elevator, police said.

As she was getting off the elevator, a short black male, wearing a distinct hat and dark jacket and with distinct protruding bad teeth, got off the elevator with her, police said.

As the girl walked down the hallway, the man grabbed her buttocks, then grabbed her on her arm and told her to keep quiet, police said. The man started to lead her down the hallway, while holding her by her arm, police said. As she passed the door to her apartment, she began to scream and knock on the door, police said. The suspect then let go and took off running, police said.

The patrol units partnered with building management and were able to corroborate her story through closed circuit television footage, police said.

"We learned that a possible suspect may reside in an apartment in the building," Hohn said in the statement. "With this information garnered by the patrol division, they went to the apartment in question and identified a possible suspect."

The suspect was identified as Cordero Greaves, he said. "In the apartment, we discovered clothing that was worn by the suspect. The victim was able to positively identify the suspect at the scene," Hohn said.

Greaves was then taken in custody, and the clothing was seized, he said.

Greaves was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault, first-degree unlawful restraint, risk of injury, and breach of peace. A $100,000 bond was set for Greaves, and he has a court date of Jan. 25.

"Sgt. Moran, and numerous officers from the patrol should be recognized for responding quickly, coordinating with building management, reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing the victim promptly," Hohn said. "By doing this they were able to contain the situation and make an apprehension of this sexual predator in an expeditious manner."
