Stamford Goodwill Robbed At Gunpoint

STAMFORD, Conn. — A man stole more than $13,000 from the Goodwill store on West Broad Street in Stamford on Monday, Sgt. Anthony Lupinacci said.

The suspect arrived just before 8 a.m. and pulled a pistol out on an employee, telling him to give him the money in the vault, Lupinacci said. After receiving the cash, the man ran out of the rear of the store toward Hanrahan Street, he said.

An employee chased the suspect but stopped when he pulled out a knife, the sergeant said. The suspect later dropped the knife, and police were collecting evidence from it, Lupinacci said.

After being confronted by the employee, the suspect made his way to the parking garage at 25 Adams Ave., where he left several items, a statement from police said. He was last seen walking north on Adams Avenue, the statement said.

The suspect was described as a light-skinned black male between 25 and 30 years old, standing about 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 with a thin build and a goatee. He was wearing a blue hoodie with white writing and black sweatpants with white stripes, the statement said. He had a black duffel bag.

Police believe the suspect knew how the store operated because he knew people by name and knew there would be a lot of cash in the vault, Lupinacci said.

Goodwill allows people to volunteer at the store after being released from prison, but Lupinacci said he was not sure whether the suspect was one of those people.
