Geneva R. Scates, 45, of 11 Woodland Ave., was charged with third-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny. She was held on $10,000, bond for arraignment Friday.
Police said a clerk at Shippan Liquors at 316 Shippan Ave. attempted to detain a woman whom he suspected of attempting to steal five bottles of alcohol. A struggle ensued, and the clerk from the adjacent Shippan Candy came in to assist after a customer told him of the fight, police said.
The woman was able to flee the store after biting the candy store clerk and jumped into a car, but officers arrived and stopped the vehicle from leaving, police said.
The liquor store clerk suffered a shoulder injury, while the clerk from the candy store had bite marks on both arms, police said.
The police recovered two bottles of Baccardi white rum, each worth $20; a bottle of Seagrams extra smooth vodka worth $21; and a New Amsterdam red berry vodka and a New Amsterdam peach vodka, each worth $18.
