STAMFORD, Conn. ? A man accused of pulling a knife during an attempted robbery was Tasered Wednesday night by a Stamford Police Officer taking him into custody, Capt. Thomas Wuennemann said.
The incident began when Officer William Petrone approached two robbery suspects, and one them, Portino Severiano, 47, began walking away from him, Wuennemann said. When Petrone grabbed the suspect, he began fighting with him, and Petrone had to Taser him, the captain said. The other suspect, Juan Carlos Pachero-Carreno, 30, did not resist, he said. The two are accused of trying to rob a man and pulling knives on him when he said he didn't have any money, Wuennemann said. The victim was able to run from the two, flag down Petrone and lead him to the suspects, the captain said. Both were searched, and police said Severiano had a large knife in his backpack and Pachero-Carreno a small knife in his pocket. Neither took out the knives when Petrone approached, the captain said. Petrone was by himself, waiting for backup, when the scuffle with Severiano took place, Wuennemann said. Severiano is expected to be charged with first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, carrying a dangerous weapon, and interfering with/resisting an officer, police said. Pachero-Carreno is expected to be charged with first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery and carrying a dangerous weapon, police said.
