State Police out of Troop G in Bridgeport responded at 1:58 p.m. to the accident scene. They discovered that an unattended tractor-trailer had rolled from the rest area parking lot, through a metal guardrail and into traffic on the southbound lanes of I-95, state police said.
The crash ended up involving three more vehicles on I-95 as well as the tractor-trailer, which had been parked and facing east in the rest area's parking lot, state police said.
The tractor-trailer slammed into a white box truck and a 2008 Nissan Altima, state police said. The box truck then hit an Acura MDX, state police said.
The truck, the two cars and the tractor-trailer slammed into the center barrier and came to a halt, state police said. Part of the Nissan Altima was wedged under the tractor-trailer, state police said.
The driver of the Nissan Altima had cuts on his hands and the side of his head and was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment, state police said.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was cited for leaving a motor vehicle on a highway without property setting the emergency brakes, state police said.
One of the drivers involved was cited for operating a vehicle with a suspended license, state police said.
