According to Conklin, here is what happened: Two men and a woman wearing gloves, hoods and masks entered the store about 8:20 p.m. Sunday. They announced it was a robbery and took cash and other items, including cigarettes, and left, he said.
They were in and out of the store in about a minute, and no one was hurt, he said.
One of the males had a knife, the other a gun and the female had an aerosol can believed to be pepper spray, Conklin said. One of the men was white or Hispanic and the other was black, he said.
Investigators believe the suspects may be from the area or scoped out the variety store because they appeared relaxed during the robbery, Conklin said. He and other investigators have been reviewing security footage, he said.
A string of armed robberies occurred on the city's East Side last year, but police do not know whether this robbery is related, Conklin said. The other robberies stopped for no reason, and no arrests were ever made, he said.
A female was not suspected in the previous incidents, he said.
