A 41-year-old Stamford man checked his brokerage account with his broker at about 5:30 p.m. Friday, police said. However, when he went back to check 30 minutes later he discovered $90,000 was missing, police said.

Understandably alarmed, the man called his broker and Wells Fargo looking for answers, said Sgt. Kelly Connelly.

The broker told the man to check with his father, Connelly said.

The man called his 72-year-old father in Virginia, who said he had taken the money and not to expect to be repaid any time soon, police said.

"The father said: 'You will get the money back when I choose to give it back to you,' " Connelly said.

The 41-year-old man told officers that his father has credit card problems, police said. The case is still under investigation.
