Stamford Police: Four Nabbed After Not Paying Cab Driver

STAMFORD, Conn. — Four people were arrested after skipping out on paying their $55 taxicab fare from Grand Central Terminal back to Stamford on Sunday morning, Sgt. Rob Barbagallo said.

An officer driving north on Washington Boulevard by Henry Street noticed a 2006 Acura TL speeding south that was being followed by a New York City taxicab flashing its lights, Barbagallo said. The officer stopped the vehicle after a short chase, he said.

The cab driver told police he had picked up the four people at Grand Central and negotiated a price to take them to the Stamford train station, Barbagallo said. Once they arrived in Stamford, two took off on foot and the other two in the Acura, police said.

The driver and owner of the vehicle, Kevin Shapiro, 21, of Stamford and the passenger, Michelle Mallozzi, 19, of Stamford were both arrested at the scene, Barbagallo said. Another officer was approached by Jeremiah Ormond, 21, of Stamford and Gemma Castagna, 20, of Norwalk, who fit the description of the other two suspects, about a half-hour later and were arrested, Barbagallo said.

Shapiro was charged with sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, second-degree forgery, reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit, and resisting arrest, all misdemeanors, police said. He was held on $10,000 bond.
