Two man entered Star Grocery on West Broad Street in Stamford and held the clerk at gunpoint and robbed the store of $600 to $700 on July 8, Conklin said. Investigators were able to put a lineup together and one suspect James Lewis, 23, was identified by the clerk, the captain said.
The second suspect remains at large, Conklin said. The same market was robbed again at gunpoint about a week after, and police are unsure if Lewis is a suspect or if the two are connected, the captain said.
Part of the uncertainty comes from a witness having to leave the country for a family issue and that the suspects hid their faces better in the second instance, he said.
Lewis was charged with first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery and held on a $50,000 bond, Conklin said.
