Alexa Stafford, 18, of Greenwich, surrendered to police Wednesday morning and was arrested. She was charged with second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, operating under the influence, possession of alcohol by a minor, reckless driving and failure to obey a traffic signal, a statement from Stamford Police said.
She has been released after posting $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 27.
The crash took place on the night of Jan. 11, when Stafford sped through a red light at North State Street and Canal Street and hit a Mitsubishi Galant carrying three people, police said.
Alcohol was recovered from Stafford’s 2012 Ford Focus, and she had an elevated blood alcohol level, police said.
All four people were transported to Norwalk Hospital, according to police. One passenger was taken to the Westchester Medical Center, spending weeks in the critical care unit. That victim has since been released to a long-term rehabilitation facility, police said.
