Dog, Tarantula Rescued From Burning Multi-Family Home In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — Several pets were rescued after a porch fire spread to two apartments in a multi-family home on Green Street in Stamford on Sunday evening, fire officials said.

Downtown firefighters responded to the home at around 6:30 p.m. on a report of a porch on fire. When they arrived, firefighters found heavy fire on the second floor porch of the home, with the fire extending into two apartments, fire officials said.

Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines and were able to bring the fire under control in 10 to 15 minutes. After it was extinguished, they continued to search for hidden pockets of fire.

Nobody was injured in the fire. While searching for occupants, firefighters found the dog and tarantula, which were removed safely from the building. Two of the four apartments were damaged in the fire, and the Red Cross was notified to provide housing for two occupants.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

A total of 28 firefighters responded with three engines, one ladder, one heavy rescue, one rapid intervention team and one command vehicle, along with Stamford EMS, Stamford Police and the Stamford Fire Marshal's office.
