Westhill High Graduate Peter Cernansky Dies At 18

STAMFORD, Conn. – Peter Charles Cernansky of Stamford died Aug. 30 from injuries in a skateboarding accident in Burlington, Vt. He was 18.  

According to the Burlington Free Press, Cernansky lost control of his skateboard and suffered head injuries at 4:40 p.m. last Tuesday. He had just started his freshman year as a business major at Champlain College, where he was awarded a trustees scholarship. 

Born March 11, 1994, in Stamford, he attended Westover Elementary School, Cloonan Middle School and Westhill High School. He was the son of Charles J. Cernansky and Sharon L. Burley. 

Cernansky was active in sports throughout his life, serving as quarterback on the Westhill High School football team. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his team and classmates, his family said. 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Richard and Carol Burley, of Muncy, Pa.; and two aunts; an uncle and three cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Elinor Burley, and Charles and Irene Cernansky; and an aunt. 

Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home in Stamford. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Spirit Church in Stamford. Burial will follow at Long Ridge Union Cemetery in Stamford. A reception will follow at the Italian Center on Newfield Road in Stamford.
