Russell E. Kemp, Jr., 71, Of Stamford, Vietnam War Veteran

STAMFORD, Conn. - Russell E. Kemp, Jr. of Stamford died Wednesday, Oct. 29. He was 71.

Kemp was born Oct. 28, 1943, in Dayton, Ohio, to Russell and Mary Riley Kemp. He was a resident of Stamford for 35 years. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami (Ohio), and Masters Degree in Finance and Banking from Wright State University. In 1962, he joined the U.S. Army Security Agency and served in South Korea. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

He started his career as a certified public accountant with the firm Deloitte & Touche in Ohio, followed by audit manager with the International Paper Company in New York. He became a vice-president of Control and Administration with British Petroleum PLC and finally vice-president of Ultramar PLC. In the mid-1990s, he shifted his career to the public service sector before retiring in 2007.

Kemp is survived by his wife, Maria D. Garcia Kemp, of Stamford; son, Russell E. Kemp III, of Stamford; daughter, Christina M. Kemp, of Stamford; sister, Barbara Ann Steck (Jerold) of Calif.; and two nephews and a niece. He was predeceased by his parents.

Calling hours are Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 12 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 and proceed for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Leo's Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford. Interment will be at a later date at the Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery, Vandalia, Ohio.
