Ralph Altomare, 97, Stamford WWII Veteran

STAMFORD, Conn. – Ralph M. Altomare of Stamford died Oct. 30 at Stamford Hospital. He was 97.

Altomare was born Feb. 25, 1915, in Stamford to Raffaelle and Mary Andrea Altomare. He served in the Army during World War II with Company 567th Heavy Ordnance in Germany and England.

He was a member of the Stamford Amateur Radio Association and a past member of the Halloween Yacht Club and Coast Guard Auxiliary No. 74.

Altomare is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a sister, Florence DeLuca, of Stamford; two sons, Ralph, of California, and Ronald, of Las Vegas; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, N. Rex Altomare; and three sisters, Vera Mecca, Amelia Shuermann and Joan Gustaveson.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church in Stamford. Burial will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Stamford. There are no calling hours. Lacerenza Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Stamford is handling arrangements.
