Peter Vlahakis, 83, Longtime Stamford Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. – Peter C. Vlahakis, a longtime Stamford resident, died Dec. 9, surrounded by his family. He was 83.

Born Nov. 28, 1929. in Kastania, Greece, he was the son of Christos and Amalia Kouroupis Vlahakis. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he signed on as a reservist for an additional four years.

Vlahakis worked at Consolidated Diesel for almost 30 years and at Pitney Bowes for 12 years before retiring. He was a member of Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation for more than 60 years, serving as a cantor and church council member.

He enjoyed sharing stories about his childhood, his family and history. Above all else, he enjoyed being with his family, taking his grandchildren for walks on the beach, to visit playgrounds and treating them to lots of ice cream.

Vlahakis is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pauline Psichopaidas Vlahakis; a son Christ (Helen) Vlahakis, of Stamford; a daughter, Emily (Thomas) Hatzis, of Stamford; two grandchildren; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, John Vlahakis; and two sisters, Georgia Vlahakis and Fotini Kanelaki.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., at Bosak Funeral Home in Stamford. There will be a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, with the Rev. Evangelos Evangelidis officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Woodland Cemetery in Stamford.
