STAMFORD, Conn. Mary Ann Kersten of Stamford died on Sept. 16 in her home. She was 79.
Kersten was born May 8, 1933, and raised in Stamford. She graduated from Mother of God Academy and later married Joseph J. Kersten Jr. on Oct. 2, 1954, at St. Mary's Church in Stamford. He died in 2010.
She enjoyed going to the beach and spending retirement alongside her husband on the New Jersey shore. An avid gardener, she enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After returning to Stamford in 2009, she enjoyed traveling, playing cards and Bingo and spending time with her friends.
Kersten is survived by a son, John J. (Laura Cisero); three daughters, Deborah (Charles) Barnsley, Maureen (James) Dinan and Marianne (Thomas) Smith; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Bosak Funeral Home in Stamford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated immediately after visitation at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Parish in Stamford. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
