Marie Sabia, 94, Lifelong Stamford Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. – Marie Salvatore Sabia, a lifelong resident of Stamford, died Jan. 10. She was 94.

Sabia was born in 1918 to Vito Antonio and Benedetta Coppolo Salvatore. She attended schools in Stamford and married Dr. Michael Sabia in 1941.

She loved to cook and travel with her husband. She cross country skied and played platform tennis and court tennis into her 80s.

Sabia is survived by two her children, Marie Salvatore Sabia and Michael Sabia Jr.; and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Sharon Sabia; a son-in law, Michael Pierson; a sister, Crystal Massare; and many relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Michael Sabia, in 1982; a grandson, Kristian Michael Pierson; three brothers, Michael Salvatore, Carmine Salvatore, and Anthony Salvatore; and two sisters, Louise DeMartino and Pauline Scarvey.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday at Church of the Holy Spirit in Stamford. Lacerenza Funeral Home and Cremation Services handled arrangements.
