STAMFORD, Conn. Joseph Bukowski of Stamford died Wednesday, Aug. 29, at his home following a long battle with brain cancer. He was 57.
Bukowski was born Sept. 10, 1954, in Bartoszyce, Poland. His family moved to the U.S. in 1960 and he graduated from Stamford High School in 1973. Bukowski graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in film and photography.
A professional photographer, he was the owner of the Cos Cob Coffee Newsstand. He enjoyed film, photography, traveling and hiking, especially with the New York Ramblers.
Bukowski usually had a camera hanging around his neck and could be seen capturing images from his many adventures for both personal and professional use, his family said. He loved going to New York City and Cove Island Beach in Stamford and spending time with his friends and family.
Bukowski is survived by his father, John Bukowski, of Stamford; two sisters, Mary C. Bukowski, of Salt Lake City and Janina "Jonah" A. Miller, of Stamford; and a nephew. He was predeceased by his mother, Katherine Meleszko Bukowski.
The family will receive friends for a Christian and musical memorial service at 10 a.m. Friday at Bosak Funeral Home in Stamford. Committal will be held at St. John Cemetery in Darien in a private ceremony.
