John Vontobel Of Stamford, Lover Of Motorcycles, Classic Cars, Bowling, Dies At 67

An area landscaper from Stamford whose many passions included rock and vinyl records, classic cars, motorcycles, and bowling, has died.

John M. Vontobel died Thursday, June 6 at age 67.

Born April 9, 1952, he was the son of the late George (Ed) Vontobel and Marion O'Leary. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his brothers Bobby, Ned, Jerry, and Bill.

He was a successful self-employed landscape in and around Stamford.

Vontobel was a collector of vinyl record, a New York Yankees fan, member of the Small Town Hustlers pool team with his son Mike and a regular on bowling leagues around Stamford for many years. 

He had a passion for animals and rescued every animal from snakes, lizards, and turtles to cats and dogs. He always had a lost animal to save and his house was a safe haven for wayward pets.

He is survived by his wife Susan (Moavero) Vontobel, daughter Amanda Vontobel, son Michael Vontobel and daughters-in-law Erin Capuano and Nicole Harris.

The family will receive family and friends at Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Ave., Stamford on Wednesday, June 12, from 4 to 8 p.m.
