STAMFORD, Conn. - John Kelling Wendt Sr. of Stamford died Thursday, April 4. He was 77.
Born in Manhattan, Wendt was the son of Charles Wendt and Evelyn Hughes. He attended St. Luke's School in New Canaan. After serving in the U.S. Army he graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was president of Rudel Machinery Company, a member of Westchester Country Club, and Fishers Island Country Club of N.Y. He was a coach for the Darien Hockey Youth Program.
Wendt was a longtime resident of Darien.
Wendt is survived by his former wife, Barbara Wendt; children, Laura Wendt of Fairfield, John Wendt Jr. of Fairfield and Katie Wendt Weber of Niwot, Colo.; a grandson; and brother, Fred Wendt of Puerto Rico.
Calling hours will be Thursday, April 11 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien, followed by a celebration of life at Ernie's Bar in Darien.
In memory of Wendt, a donation may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society.
