STAMFORD, Conn. -- John Charles Murphy Jr., a resident of Stamford, died Saturday, Jan. 30. He was 93.

Murphy proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS. Mobile CL63 in the Pacific theater during World War II, attaining the rank of radioman third class.

He worked for many years at Machlett Laboratories in Springdale, and was facilities manager for GE Credit Corporation until his retirement.

He is survived by his two sons, Fred (Kathy) Murphy and John (Patti) Murphy; his daughter, Mary (Carlos) Gutierrez; six grandchildren, Todd (Amy) Murphy, Marc Murphy, Kevin and Glenn Murphy, Carlos and Emily.
