STAMFORD, Conn. - Joan James Pollard Smith-Vaniz, 90, of Stamford, formerly of Darien, died Tuesday, April 7.
She was born April 7, 1925, in Leominster, Mass., to the late Reginald Flint and Ruth Mildred James Pollard.
Smith-Vaniz worked for public libraries in Fairfield and Boston.
She also volunteered with the Darien Red Cross Blood Drive for 35 years, Planned Parenthood and Person-to-Person.
She also was president of the Women's Auxiliary at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, a member of the choir and a member of the Vestry Outreach committee.
Survivors include her husband, William Reid Smith-Vaniz Jr.; two daughters, Alison Smith-Vaniz of San Diego, Calif., and Jane Elizabeth Smith-Vaniz of Litchfield; two sons, William Reid Smith-Vaniz III, of Sudbury, Mass., and Thomas James Smith-Vaniz of Rodez, France; one brother, Richard James Pollard of New Jersey; and five grandchildren.
Two brothers, Alan Pollard and Roger Pollard, are deceased.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1864 Post Road, Darien.
