Jerry Pitts, 78, Former Longtime Stamford Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. – Jerry B. Pitts, a longtime Stamford resident, died July 21. He was 78. 

Born Feb. 18, 1934, in Jackson Heights N.Y., he was the son of Col. Jeremiah P. Pitts and Mary McGregor Pitts. He graduated from J.M. Wright Technical School and worked as a teamster for Local 191 for 30 years.

Pitts drove trucks for Adley Express and Roadway Express as well as several local trucking companies. He retired from Pitney Bowes to Ormand Beach, Fla. with his wife of 54 years, Marianne. 

He is survived by his wife, Marianne; a son, John (Patricia) Pitts, of New Canaan; a daughter, Louise Alston, of Middletown Springs, Vt.; a brother, Col. James (Noreen) Pitts, of Lake Winnespsaukee, N.H.; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, John Edward Pitts and Robert Michael Pitts.  

Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home in Stamford. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church in Stamford. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Darien.
