STAMFORD, Conn. -- Herbert Gladstone, a long-time resident of Stamford, died on Dec. 13. He was 91.
Gladstone was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 12, 1924. He was indebted to the public educational system in New York that allowed him to earn his college degree and later his CPA from the City College of New York.
With the compliments of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he attended and earned a degree in Meteorology from Hamilton College and Harvard University. He served as part of the Adjunct Faculty in the MBA program at the University of Connecticut Stamford branch.
Gladstone was Vice President and Treasurer of Condec Corporation in Old Greenwich for thirty years. He immersed himself in many community endeavors. He was a founding member of the Roxbury Tennis and Swim Club and he was extremely proud of being instrumental in brokering the acquisition of the beautiful property upon which the Stamford Jewish Center now stands.
Gladstone played tennis until his late 80's and regularly attended his favorite places, the Stamford Jewish Center and Roxbury Swim Club to exercise and socialize.
He was predeceased by his sister Mildred Fromcheck.
Gladstone is survived by his wife Sylvia; children Alan Gladstone and his wife Wendy of Exeter, N.H., Linda Menees and her husband Gerald of Fairfield and Karen Gladstone of Arlington, Mass.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Allison Watters and her husband Fred of Brooklin, Maine, Laura Silver and her husband Kirk of Chelsea, Maine, Amy Menees of Ansonia, and Mollie Menees of Fairfield; great grandchildren, Amelia and Emmett Watters and Cole and River Silver.
There will be a memorial service at Temple Sinai, 458 Lakeside Drive, Stamford on Friday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. Shiva will be observed on Saturday, Dec.19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 284 West Hill Road in Stamford.
Donations may be made to the Stamford Jewish Center and Temple Sinai.
