He was born June 26, 1926, in Millsboro, Del., to the late Wilhelminor Johnson Pierce and William Pierce.
Johnson served in the U.S. Navy.
He later retired as an inspector deputy fire marshal with the city of Stamford.
He was active in many community organizations, including Royal and Select Masters, Royal Arch Masons, Nanticoke Indian Tribe Association, the International Association of Fire Fighters and the Connecticut State Fire Fighters Association.
He was a past president and commander of VFW Post No. 10446.
Survivors include one daughter, Fredena Johnson; one grandchild; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives.
His wife, Verlette Nicholson Johnson, preceded him in death.
Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at Bethel AME Church, 150 Fairfield Ave., Stamford.
Funeral services will be noon Friday at the church.
Interment will follow in the Fairfield Memorial Park.
Downer Funeral Home, Stamford, is handling the arrangements.
