STAMFORD, Conn. Edmund John Kryspin Sr., a longtime Stamford resident, died Sept. 17 at St Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. He was 81.
He was born June 7, 1931, in Stamford to Konstanty and Jadwiga Sylwestrzak Kryspin. He graduated from J.M. Wright Technical School and worked as an electrician at St. Joseph's Hospital and Pitney Bowes.
Kryspin retired as an electrical inspector for the city of Stamford. He and his wife owned and operated a successful real estate business. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of the Holy Name of Jesus Church.
In 2003, Kryspin was named Citizen of the Year by the Polish American Cultural Society. He was a longtime member of the Pulaski Day Parade Committee and served as the Grand Marshall for the parade in New York City. He was also a member of the Halloween Yacht Club.
Kryspin was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Helena Gawel, in March of this year. He is survived by four children, Edmund (Cady) Kryspin Jr., of Fairfield, Gregory (Katherine) Kryspin, of Norwalk, Theodore (Sandra) Kryspin, of Fairfield and Dr. Tess Kryspin (Frank) Lombard, of Stratford; three brothers, Chester, of Stamford, Walter, of Pennsylvania and Edward Kryspin, of Virginia; a sister, Victoria Markowski of Suffield, Conn.; and eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bosak Funeral Home in Stamford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Stamford. Burial will follow at St. John Roman Catholic Cemetery in Darien.
