Woman Charged In Death Of Stamford Pedestrian Likely To Avoid Prison

STAMFORD, Conn. — A Norwalk woman charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle in connection with the death of a 58-year-old Stamford female pedestrian is unlikely to serve prison time, according to the Stamford Advocate.

The jury that heard the state's case against Natalie Gainer, who was charged in the July 2014 accident in which Janice Pielert died, was unable to reach a verdict, forcing Judge Auden Grogins to declare a mistrial in April, according to the Advocate.

Prosecutors have said they do not intend to retry Gainer and reduced the charge to reckless driving to allow her to participate in the accelerated rehabilitation program, according to the Advocate.

Gainer, 50, and two other witnesses told authorities that the victim was walking outside the crosswalk and not easily seen when she was hit by the car, according to the Advocate.
