Joseph Caputo, 22, was expressing his right to free speech, expression and protest when he hopped the fence to deliver his own version of the Constitution, his attorney, Stephan Seeger, told the Advocate.
He has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of unlawful entry onto restricted grounds. The plea bargain would have kept him out of jail but put a misdemeanor conviction on his record, the Advocate said.
Seeger has 30 days to file a brief on dismissing the charges on free speech grounds, the Stamford Advocate said.
Caputo was arrested at the White House and later released to the custody of his mother in Stamford, though he was denied re-entry to the University of Bridgeport where he was studying criminal justice.
