What's Happening This Weekend in Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — Last-minute shoppers will have ample opportunity to get mom a present for Mother’s Day this weekend with several plant sales and boutique events taking place in Stamford. Visit the Daily Stamford’s events section to see what else is happening in and around the city.

Friday, May 11

Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens Plant Sale: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens, 151 Brookdale Road, will host its annual plant sale Friday and Saturday. Experts from the arboretum and UConn Master Gardeners will be on hand to assist people. For more information, cal, 203-322-6971 or visit the arboretum’s website.

Family Farm Fridays: 4 p.m. The weekly event at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road, will give families a hands-on farming experience. The program is recommended for children ages 6 and older, but younger siblings are welcome. Each week has limited enrollment so register early by calling 203-977-6521. Members: $5 per person/Non-Members: $8 per person (per class).

“Where the Wild Things Are”: 8 p.m. The Cloonan Middle School drama club will perform the stage adaptation of the children’s book written by Maurice Sendak. For more information or questions, call 203-977-2743 or email alexandercobb@ymail.com.

Saturday, May 12

May Market: 9 a.m. to noon. The Shippan Point Garden Club will be having its 86th annual May Market, offering a variety of different flowers, jewelry and more. Spring Boutique: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Long Ridge School is hoping to start a new annual fundraiser with more than 25 vendors setting up shop for its first Spring Boutique. There also will be a bake sale whose proceeds will be donated to an organization looking to help kids with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. The school is at 478 Erskine Road.

Rites of Passage Cultural Food Festival: 6-9 p.m. For the seventh year, students in the Rites of Passage  program are looking to take a trip to West Africa and to help alleviate the cost of the trip they will be sharing what they learned for the community. The night will include food from many different cultures, shopping, raffles, and more. Admission is $10 for adults, and $7 for children under 12, and the event will take place at Stamford High School, 55 Strawberry Hill Ave.

Sunday, May 13

Mother’s Day 10k Road Race: 8 a.m. Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk will host the 35th annual 10k run and 5k walk. More information is available on the Lightfoot Runners website.

Drop-In Explorer Day: Noon to 4 p.m. Nature walks, arts and crafts and animals will be some of the events featured at the weekly event at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road. Admission is $10 and $15.

Pianist Jim Brickman in Fairfield: 3 p.m. Hear Brickman’s latest work from his album “Romanza,” a collection of Italian-inspired, original love songs at Fairfield’s Quick Center for the Arts, Fairfield University, 1073 North Benson Road.
