What's Happening This Week in Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — The following is a list of events going on in Stamford this week including government meetings and other events. For more happenings taking place in the city, visit our Events section.  

Tuesday, May 29

Board of Representatives, Fiscal Committee: 7 p.m. The committee will meet and discuss grants and additional appropriations that city departments are vying for. The meeting will take place in the Democratic Caucus Room on the fourth floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Wednesday, May 30

Spring Books and Beasts: 4 p.m. Take the kids to the Stamford Museum and Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road, to read a book and meet the animals featured in the book. The event is free for members and free with gate admission for non-members.

“Impacts of Corporate Citizenship” Educational Forum: 7 p.m. The League of Women Voters and Common Cause Connecticut will be bringing Jeff Clements, author of “Corporations Are Not People,” to the Harry Bennett Branch of the Ferguson Library, 115 Vine Road. The event is free.

Thursday, May 31

Community Inspiration Awards Dinner: 6:30 p.m. The event hosted by the United Way of Western Connecticut will be honoring Harry Hurvitz, managing partner of DeloitteTax, for his part in the community. Tickets are $150 each and it will be at the Woodway Country Club, 540 Hoyt St., Darien.

Board of Representatives, Public Safety Committee: 7 p.m. The committee will be discussing a number of issues facing the city, including a potential smoke detector ordinance. The meeting will take place in the Democratic Caucus Room of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Friday, June 1

First Annual Electric Car Community Day: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sustainable Stamford, Connecticut Light & Power, and Clean Cities Coalitions will be teaching people about the benefits of electric cars, and other products and services. The event will take place at the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

“42nd Street”: 8 p.m. Curtain Call will be presenting the classic backstage tale, “42nd Street” during the month of June. Shows will be at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. Sundays and two  8 p.m. Thursday performances. Tickets are $28 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $14 for students and children. Curtain Call is at 1349 Newfield Ave.
