Monday, April 30

Sing Along with Dr. Ev: 1 p.m. Youngsters will get a kick out of Dr. Ev and his music when he performs at the Main Library of the Ferguson, 1 Public Library Plaza (Bedford and Broad streets). The event is appropriate for children 5 and under, and an adult needs to be present.

A Spot of Science: 3:30 p.m. The weekly children’s science program continues at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road, focusing on different themes each session. It is recommended for ages 5 and up. Members are free. Nonmembers are free with gate admission. For more information call 203-322-1646.

Stories Alive!: 4 p.m. Take your kids to see their favorite illustrations from Fred Marcellino come alive at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road. Members are free. Board of Education Committee meetings: 7 p.m. The board’s Labor Relations and Curriculum Committees will meet and discuss several issues, including Algebra 1 for eighth-grade students. The meetings take place in the board’s conference room on the fifth floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Board of Representatives-Land Use & Urban Redevelopment Commission: 7:30 p.m. The committee will discuss a number of issues, including holding a public hearing on leasing the Red Barn/Merriebrook Barn at Mianus River Park by the City of Stamford to the Wildlife Orphanage Inc. The meeting will take place in the Republican Caucus Room on the fourth floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Wednesday, May 2

Spring Books & Beasts: 4 p.m. Kids will get a story read to them in the Heckscher Barn at Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road, and then make friends with the animals at the barn with different animals coming each week. Stamford Historical Society honors Mort Walker: 6 p.m. Stamford resident Mort Walker, creator of Beetle Bailey, will be honored at a gala at the Italian Center, 1620 Newfield Ave. Tickets are $95 and the event will include a raffle of Walker’s merchandise and can be purchased by calling 203-329-1183.

Author and Pulitzer Prize nominee Jack Cavanaugh at the Ferguson Library: 6:30 p.m. The sports writer and Stamford resident will be speaking about his latest book, “Season of ’42: Joe D., Teddy Ballgame, and Baseball’s Fight to Survive a Turbulent First Year of War.” Cavanaugh will be at the Harry Bennett branch of the Ferguson Library, 115 Vine Road, call 203-351-8292 for more information.

Board of Representatives: Public Health & Safety Committee: 7 p.m. The committee will meet to discuss a number of issues, including a proposed ordinance on smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in homes. The meeting will take place in the Democratic Caucus Room on the fourth floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Rare Footage of Frank Sinatra: 7:30 p.m. The Avon Theater, 272 Bedford St., will be showing rarely seen footage of the Chairman of the Board with music archivist Bill Shelley. Tickets range from $6 to $11.

Mike Birbiglia's “My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend”: 8 p.m. The Palace Theatre, 61 Atlantic St., will host the one-man show about romantic miscues Thursday night. Tickets are $30 to $40. For more information, visit www.stamfordcenterforthearts.org.

Friday, May 4

Family Farm Fridays: 4 p.m. The Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road, will host the first session of this family friendly class to learn explore the farm and garden to see what products come locally through cooking and creative classes. Each week has limited enrollment so register early by calling 203-977-6521. Members are $5 per person. Nonmembers are $8 per person per class.

Vivian and Stanley Reed Marine Opening Reception: 6 p.m. The latest art gallery from the Stamford Artist Association will have its opening reception at the association’s Townhouse Gallery, 39 Franklin St. Admission is free and there is parking on the street, and visit www.stamfordartassociation.org or call 203-325-1139 for more information.
