Thomas Butler, Owned LifeThyme, Gingiss

Stamford resident Thomas Butler, a past proprietor of Gingiss Formalwear, died Friday at Stamford Hospital. He was 74 years old.

Butler was founder and owner of LifeThyme Natural Market in New York City and for 31 years owned and operated Gingiss with his wife Rita.

Butler enjoyed playing and watching sports and belonged to the Italian Center Tennis Team, and the Sterling Farms and E. Gaynor Brennan Golf Courses.

In addition to his wife, Rita Sobieski Buter of Stamford, Butler is survived by daughter Laura and husband Alan Luchette of New Canaan; son Tommy and wife Megan Butler of San Francisco; and three brothers and two grandchildren.

The family will accept callers from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford. A service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Stamford.
