Tarzia Seeks To Return to Stamford Finance Board

STAMFORD, Conn. — Four months after leaving the Board of Finance, Joseph Tarzia was one of three Republicans nominated for the board during the Republican Town Committee caucus Wednesday night.

Tarzia, former board chairman, said Wednesday night he stepped down in February amid ethic complaints made by Mayor Michael Pavia’s office. The Board of Ethics also found probable cause that he broke the city’s ethics code.

“But I’m back,” he said after the meeting. Tarzia said he was always considered a “watchdog” for taxpayers and would fill that role again if elected.

The GOP also endorsed Bob Kolenberg and Scott Mirkin for the Board of Finance. Kolenberg will be trying for his third term, and Mirkin, who replaced Tarzia, will be running in his first election for the finance board.

“I look forward to getting my message out there, and it’s a positive message for taxpayers,” Mirkin said after being nominated. He previously served about nine years on the Board of Representatives.

The candidates endorsed for the Board of Representatives were Fritz Blau in District 2, Pedro Zapata in District 3, Al Sgritta in District 7, Frank Trofort in District 9, Ralph Loglisci in District 13, and Demetrios Frazis in District 16. Loglisci and Frazis are both incumbents, and Blau and Sgritta are placeholders.

Only Mike Bayonne Jr. was endorsed for the Board of Education. Both Barry Haynes and Vicky Bradly were named as placeholders.

The four endorsed for constable were Blau, Joseph S. Tarzia [son of Joseph Tarzia], Ralph Loglisci and Phil Balestriere.

The placeholders are named to fill spots temporarily until other candidates have time to meet with the nominating committee and replace them. Jerry Pia, Stamford Republican Town Committee chairman, said candidates will be named by the Aug. 2 meeting.

The Democrat Town Committee will make its endorsements Thursday.
