William Tifa, 21, was picked-up by Greenwich Police on Monday, March 4, while he was appearing in a Stamford court on another matter, Greenwich Police said.
Tifa, who was already being held on a warrant out of New York, was wanted by Greenwich in connection with an arrest last November along with two other men for allegedly using fake prescriptions by pretending to be a doctor to obtain codeine cough medicine in order to get high, police said.
Officers were tipped off to the scam after receiving a call from the North Street Pharmacy in Banksville on Friday, Nov. 23, said the Greenwich Police Department.
Undercover cops along with patrol officers were told that the three men would be returning to the pharmacy to obtain additional prescriptions, that one of the suspects had called into, pretending to be a doctor, police said.
Police set up surveillance on the pharmacy and watched as the three entered the parking lot. All three were nabbed as they attempted to obtain the additional prescription, police said.
The arrest report stated that the three suspects had also successfully obtained the medicine at four additional locations.
At the time, Tifa was charged with conspiracy to obtain a narcotic substance through fraud and other drug violations.
He is being held on $250,000 bond for the New York warrant in Cell No. 5 in Greenwich.
