Stuart Olds, Leader in Radio Industry

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 9, for Stamford resident and radio executive Stuart Olds. They will take place at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 42 Cross Road, Stamford. Olds, who was CEO of the Katz Media Group, died Dec. 4 after a brief illness. He was 60 years old.

Olds was born April 1, 1950, in Mosinee, Wisc. He started at Katz Radio in Chicago in 1977 and would remain with the Katz organization throughout his career.  In 1987, he was named president of Katz Radio and in 1994 he became president of the Katz Radio Group. He was named CEO of the Katz Media Group in 2000. He made invaluable contributions to the radio industry.

Equally, if not more, important, Olds was respected and admired by his colleagues for his leadership, career support and guidance. He was a member of several foundation boards and professional organizations. His affiliations included membership on the board of directors of the Radio Advertising Bureau and the Bayliss Foundation. He also served as vice chair of the Broadcasters Foundation Board and was an honorary trustee of Alliance for Women in Media. Olds also was an avid golfer. Although his accomplishments were many, Olds’ lasting legacy probably will be his warmth, kindness and integrity. He was devoted to his family members.

He is survived by his wife, Kim; four daughters, Dawn  Gonzalez and husband Michael, of San Antonio, Morgan Gawronski and husband Luke of Stamford, Whitney  Kennedy and husband Thomas of Bedford, N.Y., and Madison Olds of Stamford; two grandsons; a sister; a brother; and his mother, Dorothy Olds of Eau Claire, Wisc. The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday, Dec. 8, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford. Following Thursday’s funeral service, a celebration of Olds’ life will be held at the Italian Center of Stamford, 1620 Newfield Ave.
