State Trooper Hurt in 3-Car Crash in Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — Police were searching for a driver who fled after causing a three-car crash on Interstate 95 in which a state trooper was injured early Monday in Stamford, WTNH-TV reports on its website.

The trooper was traveling south on I-95 near Exit 7 in the left lane at about 1:30 a.m. Monday. A 1998 Dodge Caravan spun from the right lane toward the left lane after striking a bridge barrier on the right shoulder and hit the police cruiser.

The cruiser hit the median jersey and came to a stop in the left lane. The Caravan also stopped, blocking the right lane, and its driver fled on foot.

A 2002 Nissan Sentra then struck the police cruiser from behind. The trooper was taken to Stamford Hospital with a head wound and left leg pain. The occupants of the Sentra were taken to Stamford Hospital with minor injuries.

State police said the investigation was continuing. Anyone who witnessed the crash or can assist in locating the driver is asked to call State Police Troop G at 203-696-2500.
