STAMFORD, Conn. — Over the past couple of weeks The Stamford Daily Voice has recapped 2012 in Stamford by running the top 10 stories of the year.

The stories did not run in any order. “Stamford Fire Victims Laid To Rest”:  In early January the funeral was held for the Badger sisters, Lily, 9, and twins Sarah and Grace, 7, who died when their Shippan Point home burned down Christmas morning 2011. “Stamford Cop Injured In Foot Chase”: While chasing a suspect in Norwalk, Officer Troy Strauser fell about 20 feet on May 17. He was treated for injuries to his face, arms and internal organs, and is in the rehabilitation process. “Chelsea Piers Opens In Stamford”: Chelsea Piers opened its 400,000 square-foot Connecticut location on Stamford’s East Side in July, offering a plethora of sports and athletic opportunities to people in the area. “Stamford Teen Dies In Dirt Bike Crash”: Kevin Bella, 13, died after he and his brother Brandon, 16, crashed their dirt bikes while riding in an abandoned field on Long Ridge Road. Brandon was hospitalized for several days. “Murders Fill Stamford’s Summer”: Bloodshed and violence came with regularity in Stamford over the summer, when three people were murdered and several others hospitalized. “Stamford Hires New Superintendent”: After a year as serving as the acting superintendent and then the interim superintendent, the city’s Board of Education finally decided to hire Winifred Hamilton to the position. “Stamford Man Accidentally Shoots Himself”: Former high school football stand-out Marcus Dixon, 22, accidentally shot himself with his .45 caliber handgun. Dixon had removed the magazine from the weapon and thought the chamber was empty when it went off. The bullet struck him in the head and he was pronounced dead on the scene. “Hurricane Sandy Slams Into Stamford”:  Hurricane Sandy ripped through Stamford in late October, knocking down trees and causing thousands of people in the city to go without power for almost a week. “Boater Found Dead In Stamford Harbor”: A boat carrying five people flipped in Stamford Harbor in July and emergency rescuers were able to save four of the people. However New Rochelle Firefighter and boat operator Keith Morris drowned.
